That time I sculpted the throne from Game of Thrones… yeah.. I did that.

It was the winter of 2010. I was working for a fabrication shop as the head of the screen printing department when my boss comes in and asks “Hey, you have experience sculpting right?” That’s how it began. I was taken to a dusty and non-insulated part of one of the warehouses and asked to complete all the tiny details on this big sword-chair thing they had to make for HBO. “It’s for some new show coming out called ‘Game of Thrones.'” At the time that sounded like the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. But.. a job’s a job. The throne turned out pretty great. This was a public safe copy of the original metal sculpture that was meant to travel around to all the events and conventions to promote the new show.

Fun fact: The original sculpture has a sword point sticking out of the seat area.. so.. um.. you’d get stabbed in the tuchus when you’d take a seat. That bit had to go.

Fun fact #2: Years later, I met and became friends with the metal artist HBO hired to make that actual throne you all saw on the show.. yeah, it’s real metal and it weighs a couple of tons. Can’t move that baby around to all the shows. When we met I showed him these pics, he got a kick out of it.. It’s a small world kids, be kind.
